Smith & Torok were founded by two friends, Michael Smith, and Alex Torok who met as apprentices working for James Purdey & Sons in 1975. After they had spent many years working within the trade, in 2013 they set up their own company and, were soon taking orders for London Best Guns.
Smith & Torok had the pleasure of producing a pair of guns for a prestigious American Collector. This Dual Gun could either be used as a 10 Bore Shotgun or a 10 Bore Rifle.
“Our Dual Gun is based on a Beesley self-opening mechanism and, each of the six barrels were proofed to 3 ½ inch magnum. Each gun has three pairs of barrels which are 29 ½, 25 and 20 inches. The 25-inch rifled barrels incorporates Smith & Torok’s unique design of hiding the express sites into a conventional concave game rib system rather than, using the quarter rib system more commonly used. The weight of each 10 Bore Dual Guns is 10 lbs 2 oz and has double articulated triggers.
The barrels were fitted with a three-leaf sight for shooting at 50, 75 and 100 yards. We regulated them to shoot at a six-inch circle at 100 yards. The guns themselves were heavily carved by the widely renown Italian engraver Jacamo of, Creative Arts and features a range of wild quarry.
The stocks are made from Exhibition Grade Burr Walnut and, to compliment this we made a hand-made case of Bird’s Eye Maple with Snake Wood corners. The outer is covered in London colour oak bark leather and the interior is green calfskin. All the brass locks, fittings and accessories are made in Smith & Torok’s London Workshop. It is a two-tiered case housing two guns, six pairs of barrels and the usual accessories of cleaning rods, jags, snap caps and turn screws. In addition, the case also houses exquisite tools and equipment to make 10 bore loads.”
